Bermuda Runaway….need I say more! This weekend of stitching was simply the best ever. Shina met Susan and I at the airport after we cleared customs with our entire luggage (8 large suitcases + 2 carry-on’s)…I thought I was going to get left behind for the second trip. The cars in Bermuda are small (1 per family allowed) and the roads are tiny like the ones in St. Augustine only really curvy…is that a word. I think we managed to get our speed up to 35 miles per hour at one point. I was sooooo busy looking at the beautiful ocean, cliffs, bright colored homes, flowers, etc. that I didn’t get sick. I told Shina that if she got into a wreck to make sure they dug the little old lady out from the back seat from under the baggage.
We arrived at "Boundary Cottage" where we nested in until the group arrived to take us to dinner aboard a cable-laying ocean liner. We had dinner with all the officers aboard ship. It was lovely and the men had Irish, Scottish, and English accents! I could have listened all night.
Next day was shopping at the exquisite "Island House" and other local shops and the Bermudan ladies met us for dinner that night.
The following day, we attended their local Embroidery Guild Ladies stitching group and were treated to a lovely beaded tassel class and great fun seeing what all the ladies were stitching on. Then we traveled to the home of Kathy Faries that evening for our first class "Stitchers Needle Wrap Up". We set up a mini boutique and had a fun time explaining all the new and wonderful gadgets that are available in the states. Susan loves explaining the correct ways to make your stitches so that they look great! Lots of tidbits of history thrown in during the class. I’m always amazed that I hear something new each time I take a class. What great fun sitting around the table stitching with the ocean as a view.(see picture from Kathy’s home)
Next day we moved to the Pompano Beach Resort Golf and Country Club for our weekend class. This is a fabulous hotel with 5 course dinners and dessert bars to die for! Our classroom overlooked the ocean and we began on our projects. Our project was a "Pocket of Stitches", self-finishing which everyone loves and a Bermuda Purse to attach it to! I love the way the stitches all work together to achieve the look of lace. They just flowed together forming intricate patterns. Lots of great stitching time, shopping at the boutique, and smiles and giggles by all.
I’m not sure, but I think I went home with more luggage than I came with!
Lots of tears, hugs, etc. and I’ll be back next year.
